Cheap Holidays - Can You Be Flexible on Flights?

Cheap holidays are always highly sought after, particularly to popular destinations like the Canary Islands, Florida and mainland Spain.

Most people prefer to fly off on cheap holidays at a convenient time of day. However, if you’re flexible on flight times, you may be able to grab an even bigger bargain.

Listed below are some of the pros and cons of flights that take people on cheap holidays in the early hours of the morning.

Pros

    * Cost – the biggest advantage of flying out at say 2am on holiday is that the inconvenient flight time will usually mean you pay even less for your cheap holiday.
    * Traffic – while flying out on cheap holidays at lunchtime may seem ideal, the reality can be different. Getting stuck in heavy traffic on the way to the airport for example won’t happen if you’re flying out in the middle of the night.
    * The weather when you arrive – if you’re jetting off to somewhere hot, it can be incredibly uncomfortable to sit on a coach for a long time if you arrive in the middle of the day. Taking a flight in the early hours will usually mean arriving when it’s cooler, so you have a more pleasant start to your cheap holiday.

Cons

    * Inconvenience – if you’re travelling alone or as a couple on cheap holidays, an early morning flight time may not faze you. However, if you have young children, getting them out of bed to drive to the airport in the dark, early hours could be problematic.
    * The impact on your holiday – staying up all day to catch a 2am flight can be tiring. When you arrive at your destination, you may take a day to get back into a proper sleep pattern. If you’ve got a similar flight time coming home, you could lose most of a day at either end of your break.
    * Any flight delays – flights can be delayed for a number of reasons and the effect of any delays will seem worse if yours was scheduled to take off at 2am, but has been put back by a few hours. Trying to sleep in the departures lounge is never a pleasant experience.

Summary

The flight times offered as part of cheap holidays can vary considerably depending on your travel agent, airline and chosen destination. If you can be flexible on what time you depart to and fly back from your destination, then your cheap holidays could be even more affordable.
