Beaches In terms of luck, India is by far ahead, being a peninsula amongst other things. Surrounded by the Arabian Sea to the west, the Bay of Bengal to the east and the Indian Ocean to the south, India has to offer the best when it comes to beaches: Goa, Maharashtra and Lakshwadeep to the west coast, Kerala, Chennai and Andhra Pradesh to the south and Orissa to the east.
Our beaches here proffer an assortment of actions. Excellent underwater views of coral and marine, snorkeling, sea bathing and basking in the sun on the beach are a few to start with. And if this is not enough for the water babies, scuba diving, swimming, fishing and camping along with beautiful underwater coral gardens and unspoiled beaches especially virgin beach, unpolluted environment and camping facility are also there.
Goa, the Ibiza of India, is a Union Territory located between Maharashtra and Karnataka and was inhabited by the Portuguese and French. Its architecture and culture is reminiscent of the same. Amongst all the famous beaches here are the Anjuna, Calangute, Baga, Dona Paula and Miramar. These beaches are known to offer a variety of experiences when it comes catering to the party animals, people looking for adventure and water sports, and the others who would just like to lay back and watch time go by.
To the north of Goa, in
Maharashtra are a few popular beaches which are known for their serenity. Ganapatipule is one of the most famous ones here known for its 400 year old pristine natural beauty. Bassein is another popular beach about77 kilometers along the Mumbai- Ahmedabad highway. Isolated and unspoiled the Mandwa- Kihim beach lies 12 miles north of Alibag and is easily accessible from Mumbai. Harnai is another unspoiled beach about 200 kilometers from Mumbai and is a popular weekend destination for people in Mumbai and Pune.
Lakshwadeep meaning a hundred thousand islands, is the smallest Union Territory of India, has a lot to offer when is comes to beaches. Kavaratti, a beautiful calm lagoon is ideal for water sports, swimming and soaking in the sun. In Kalpeni you can swim, reef-walk or water-sport on kayaks, sail boats & pedal boats. Minicoy is another place to be and is an important center for Tuna fishing. Kadmath is a beautiful shallow lagoon on the west that forms an ideal spot for water sports; there is a narrow lagoon on the east.
Daman and Diu is the second smallest Union Territory of India and are two separate areas. Nagoa Beach a secluded beach is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful beaches in India. The unique shoe-shape of the beach makes it more beautiful. A swim in the water of this unspoilt virgin beach is most refreshing one. Devka and Jampore are the two other beaches here worth visiting.
Orissa has a natural bounty in the form of blue beaches and clear skies. The long coastline has made it another favorite destination amongst tourists. The popular beaches here are Baleshwar where several fun filled hours can be spent. Balighai is a famous picnic spot. Gopalpur is the most pristine beaches and is a splendid retreat for sea-worshippers. Gopalpur is a surfer’s delight and is excellent for sailing too. The other famous beaches are Chandipur, Konark, Pradeep and Puri.
The state of Tamil Nadu settled to the south of India, has
Chennai as its capital which is famous for its beaches such as the Marina beach. It is the pride of Chennai and stretches up to approximately five kilometers. The other popular beaches is the Elliot’s which is to the south of Marina and proves to be an ideal place an ideal place for the sun worshipers to recharge their batteries by lazing around on this beach. Covelong beach is also amongst the well liked beaches here.
Moving further to the south, are the
Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Known for its exotic beauty and geographic location Andaman & Nicobar is the most unique Island state of India. The beaches and coastal areas of these islands are still untouched and unspoilt, making it an ideal beach holiday destination. Radhnagar beach is the favorite among all nature lovers who love to explore the wide range of fauna and flora. The main attraction of the Radhnagar Beach is its calm and clean surrounding which offers a soothing sensation and relieves you of all the worldly worries. Harminder Bay is a pristine land, where aquamarine waves of the Indian Ocean embraces the white sandy beaches. Close to nature, Harminder Bay beach is a quiet getaway. Karmatang Beach is famous for the turtles here and is a perfect retreat for the city dwellers who visit the beach for small vacations. Ramnagar Beach offers a breathtaking view of the serene environment. It is famous for its widely scattered grains of sand offers the travelers a chance to spend some quality time there and rest on the sandy beach.
Moving towards to the southern most tip of India lays
Kerala, also popularly known as Gods own country. It is here that the Arabian Sea and Indian Ocean converge. It is a land of rivers and backwaters. Forty-four rivers crisscross the state along with countless runlets. Kerala boasts a minimum of twenty beautiful beaches and many more that are still waiting to be discovered. Most of India’s finest beaches are in Kerala. For its entire 900 kilometer stretch, the Kerala coast is lined with sandy beaches, rocky promontories and coconut palms. The beaches are known for the zephyr, gentle surf and pure azure waters. The palatable seafood, serene and lush environment and friendly people make this place worth its name. The most famous ones amongst them are Alappuzha Beach Bekal Beach Kappad Beach Kovalam Beach and Varkala Beach. The remaining are Beypore Beach, Cherai Beach, Dharmadam Island, Ezhimala Beach, Fort Kochi Beach, Kappil Beach, Kizhunna Ezhara Beach, Marari Beach, Padinharekara Beach, Pallikere, Beach, Payyambalam Beach, Shanghumukham Beach, Somatheeram Beach, Thangasseri Beach, Thirumullavaram Beach, Vallikunnu Beach.
Andhra Pradesh is situated towards the east coast of India. It is the fourth largest state of India. The beaches in Andhra Pradesh are stunning and beautiful. This state has a 1000-kilometers coastline and eight districts here have direct access to the ocean. The famous Bheemunipatnam Beach, also known as Bhimli is 25 km north of Visakhapatnam (Vizag). The water at Bhimli beach is shallow, and is therefore considered one of the safest beaches for swimmers and surfers.
The Ramakrishna beach is located in Visakhapatnam. This beautiful stretch provides some picturesque views and offers a respite from the busy life of the city. The Manginapudi beach is bestowed with exotic sites and a historic port city. It is famous as a health resort as well as a perfect picnic spot. The Mypad beach located in the Nellore district is an exquisite beach with lush greenery and long stretches of silver sand. The Rishikonda beach is a virgin beach along with sun kissed sand and crystal clear sea, attracts tourists from all over. The other popular beaches are Kalingapatnam, Kottapatnam, Motupalle, Perupalem and the Suryalanka Beach.
Karnataka is bordered by the Arabian Sea to the west, Goa to the northwest, Maharashtra to the north, Andhra Pradesh to the east, Tamil Nadu to the southeast, and Kerala to the southwest. The coastline throws open a picture perfect world of captivating palm fringed beaches. One of the well visited beaches is the Karwar Beach which has all the makings of a perfect holiday, gentle surfs, palm lines beaches and silvery sand. The Malpe Beach is a popular due to the pristine beauty and peaceful surroundings. The other famous beaches are the Maravanthe Beach famous for the water sports; Bhatkal Beach known for the gorgeous temple perched on a hillock by the shore and the Murudeshwar Beach.
Pondicherry, now renamed Pudducherry as per the vernacular language, comprises of four scattered coastal enclaves- Pondicherry now called as Pudducherry, Karaikal which is in Tamil Nadu, Yanam in Andhra Pradesh and Mahe in Kerala which lies on the west coast. These places have preserved the French heritage and its cultural aspects and are a combination of cultures. The people here speak almost 55 languages. The natural beauty mesmerizes and influences the visitors. The shimmering golden vast sea shores, the enchanting moonlit dinners, the blissful lagoons, the exclusive sunset cruises prove to be a wonderful retreat from the hustle and bustle of the city life.
