When many people think about holidays, they conjure up images of sunshine, beaches and the traditional tourist fare. However, there are so many other options than the traditional summer holiday. Indeed, some of the best family breaks currently on the market are available right here in the UK, and are a little unusual.
Working holidays have been around in some shape or form in Britain for many years, and many families find that they provide the ideal opportunity to get outside, have fun and spend time together, all while playing a part in conserving the UK's heritage.
Indeed, the enduring appeal of these types of holidays can perhaps be explained to an extent by their relatively low price, coupled with the opportunity to do something positive while getting away from home and having a great time. Working holidays are also full of activities that cater to a wide range of interests which allow all members of the family to pick up new skills. Whether someone in your family is a budding Indiana Jones that's hoping to dig up history, a green fingered enthusiast in search of a gardening challenge, a lover of the great outdoors or simply looking for a new way to spend quality family time, working holidays are full of activities and experiences that will appeal to people of all ages and backgrounds.
In the UK alone, there are some great working holidays on offer. Take for example, the ability to enjoy the beautiful landscape of Snowdonia in Wales, carrying out a range of conservation tasks whilst a professional photographer teaches you how to capture your work and the landscape on camera. If that doesn’t suit, then history buffs and archaeological enthusiasts will surely love the chance to follow in the footsteps of the Romans by helping to rebuild a dry stone wall along the line of Hadrian's Wall under the supervision of an experienced tutor.
Those after a more adventurous holiday can also be catered for on a working holiday in the UK. How about biking and conserving the North Yorkshire countryside or spending time repairing coastal footpaths while learning to surf under the tutelage of a professional instructor in Devon?
The above are only a few working holidays available within the UK, and while the accommodation on hand is usually fairly basic, the locations usually offer fantastic scenery and include cooking, cleaning and toilet/washing facilities.
If you've never considered one before, you could find that a
working holiday provides you and your family with a unique experience and all sorts of wonderful memories. It might be an idea to have a look at the wide range of holiday options that are available and see what takes your fancy. You might be surprised at how many appeal to you and your family.
