Winches are one of those things that seem like an extravagant expense; I always wondered why my friend insisted he had one on the front of his truck - no matter what kind of truck he had; there was his winch. And then one day I realized why he had it, and why he always had it. We live in snow country, and while the roads are cleared off a lot quicker here than in, for instance, the south, the snow can come quick and hard, and it can overwhelm the system before you really know what has hit. That is what happened to a young couple just a mile from the exit; the freeway was already close to being closed down, and all the other cars on the highway just drove right past the little compact the couple was driving; well, they were barely visible.
They had called a wrecker, but in weather like this it was a crapshoot how soon or whether they would be gotten to.
Smittybilt to the rescue.
The car was pulled out from the clutches of the snow covered hill, and they drove (very slowly) to the next exit. The hotels might have been full, but they were back in civilization - and never again did I ask why my friend always put a winch on his truck. It might be going a little far to say that he saved their lives that night - after all, we would have given them a ride anyway. But he did literally pull them out of a fix, and the thanks that they gave him even made me feel good.
Winches can be a huge convenience to off raoders, and they can be a life saver in emergency situations - and Smittybilt makes the best winches money can buy, in my book and my friends. The XRC series starts at a 3000 pound capacity and goes up to the Smittybilt XRC 12, a 12000 pound capacity, 6.6 HP winch with a gear ratio of 265:1.
The XRC 3 winch is rated at 3000 pounds of pulling capacity with a 136:1 gear ratio, which means that even the smallest winch in this series can deliver a startling amount of pulling power - it is perfect for light duty ATVs or UTVs and will supply good service on small trucks for light duty jobs.
The winches are surprisingly inexpensive considering you get the Smittybilt name - a name which synonymous with quality, and 4Wheel Drive Hardware at 4WD.com has some of the best prices on the net. When you need a quality built, dependable winch it is impossible to beat Smittybilt - and when you need a place for parts for your 4 wheel drive vehicle or ATV is is hard to beat 4Wheel Drive Hardware - from light duty ATV and UTV applications, through the XRC 8 series and the XRC 12 (the largest of the XRC line), whatever your winch needs, Smittybilt has the product for you.
So don't think that only off roaders might have uses for these powerhouse winches - there are hundreds of duties they might be called to perform, but in the end the first time you use one will be the last time you wonder why you need one.
